Meet Jason Moore

Role: Head of Enterprise Transformation Office at Zip

Former Top Role: Sr. Director, Procurement Operations at Discover Financial Services

What inspired you to join Zip and contribute your expertise?

I had first-hand experience implementing Zip enterprise-wide at Discover so I was able to see the enormous impact the product can make. Through that experience, I also had the opportunity to work with a lot of people at Zip and I was always impressed with the caliber of talent on the team. For me, the combination of an amazing product plus working with an amazing team was too good to pass up.

Can you share a memorable success story of an impactful project from your time in procurement?

My role at Discover was created to fix what was widely considered a "broken" procurement process. I was incredibly proud of our team's success in driving a 50%+ reduction in cycle times and a nearly 70% increase in customer satisfaction. Major cross-functional projects are never easy so it was great to see the entire team pull together to create this win.

What advice would you give to companies looking to elevate their procurement strategies today?

I think it's really important to understand what your business stakeholders' experience is with your procurement process and how that may be impacting the achievement of your broader procurement objectives. The perception of your procurement team is often intrinsically tied to the performance of your process, for better or worse, so take a hard look at what your end-to-end process looks like and where you can drive improvement.

What sets Zip apart in the market from your perspective as a procurement expert?

Personally, I love the no code nature of Zip and the flexibility that it allows to quickly respond to changes in your business or regulatory environment. I've seen too many solutions where it's exceedingly difficult to adapt to those changes and it creates an environment that inhibits continuous improvement.

Which skills or focus areas are going to be most important for the future leaders of procurement?

As more of the transactional work gets automated, soft skills will become increasingly important. Invest in relationships with your business partners and suppliers.
